If you see your dentist twice a year for professional cleanings and brush and floss twice a day, every day, you’re well on your way to maintaining optimal oral health for the rest of your life. But your efforts to preserve your pearly whites shouldn’t end there. Read on to find out how you can adjust your eating habits to give your teeth a healthy boost.
Follow these five tips to eat your way to healthier teeth and gums:
Replace coffee with tea. Black coffee is one of the best-known teeth stainers, and has little to no nutritional value. Trade out your daily cup of joe for black or green teas instead. These varieties contain polyphenols, antioxidant plant compounds that prevent plaque from adhering to your teeth and help reduce your chances of developing cavities and gum disease. Both are good for you, although greens teas have slightly higher polyphenol content.
Drink soda through a straw (if you must drink soda at all). Drinking directly from a cup or a bottle places the beverage directly onto the teeth, meaning that the acids sodas contain are more likely to contribute to the erosion of tooth enamel. And don’t think that diet sodas are any better for your dental health—you may save on calories, but the acid levels remain the same. Sipping soda through a straw angled toward the back of your mouth will help to push the soda away...
The Kettlebell is a fantastic medium for training. The Kettlebell is not only a ton of fun, but it can supplement your training in a very effective and specific manor.
The Kettlebell is a great tool for the beginner athlete. It will teach the athlete how to properly use their legs and hips, and also how important it is to generate force by driving feet into the ground. This, in return, will drive the Kettlebell up, minimizing the use of arms or lower back. This basic understanding can play a huge role, not just in overall Athletic development, but also makes it easier when introducing the athlete to Olympic lifts.
Furthermore, the Kettlebell is a perfect tool for the individual that is looking to get in shape or looking to shed some fat. I have begun to use the Kettlebells with two clients that are looking to just get in shape with excellent results. Its so easy to explain how to use and you can use it to do just about any form of exercise, but what I find works best is complexes.
Complexes are great for getting your heart rate up and burning fat, so whether you’re an athlete or just looking to lose a few pounds, the Kettlebell is a great way...

It is common knowledge that oxygen is vital for the brain to function. But scientists are now learning just how vital proper and abundant oxygen flow is to our long-term health.
Dr. Kristine Yaffe, a professor of psychiatry, neurology and epidemiology at the University of California, San Francisco, participated in a study that analyzes the relationship between sleep apnea and dementia in elderly women. The study found that women with sleep apnea were nearly twice as likely to develop dementia as “normally sleeping” women within a five-year period. According to Dr. Yaffe, these findings suggest that there is a “biological connection between sleep and cognition” and the “treatment of sleep apnea might help prevent or delay the onset of dementia in older adults.”
Sleep apnea, or sleep-disordered breathing, is a condition where an individual has one or more pauses in breathing or abnormally shallow breathing while sleeping. Although the individual is most likely not aware of their breathing difficulties, he or she can be awakened from the lack of oxygen and also feel the negative effects of disturbed sleep the next day. In addition, sleep apnea can also bring...
